U.S. imposes sanctions on two Russian banks

(Reuters) – On Tuesday, the United States imposed sanctions upon Russia’s VEB Bank of Russia and Promsvyazbank. The statement was made by the U.S. Treasury Department after Moscow recognized two independent regions in eastern Ukraine.

Janet Yellen, Treasury Secretary said that today’s actions were taken together with allies and our partners to begin dismantling Kremlin financial networks and their ability to finance destabilizing activity around the globe.
