BEIJING, (Reuters) – In a two-month-long investigation by the Chinese Communist Party’s anti-corruption inspectors found a variety of financial sector weaknesses.

China’s highest anti-graft regulator has completed an inspection of 25 institutions. These included the central bank, banking and insurance regulators and stock exchanges. It was China’s first coordinated sector inspection since 2015.

“Some people lack political responsibility when implementing financial reform and the promotion is not strong enough,” Xinhua quoted as saying the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, (CCDI).

This required quick action to address the problem.

Anti-graft found issues with the use of regulatory power to gain personal gains at the bank and insurance regulator and demanded tighter supervision.

China executed Lai Xiaomin last year after he was found guilty for taking 1.79 billion Yuan ($282.83million) in bribes.

Yi Gang, the central bank chief, promised to increase efforts to help the real economy and prevent financial risk. He also pledged to speed up building a modern central banking system.
