LONDON (Reuters – Russian companies are preparing for a wave if tighter sanctions after Russia invaded Ukraine.

This is a list listing some companies, sorted by location:

EUROPEAN COMPANIES

BASF

German chemicals manufacturer Wintershall Dea co-owns the Russian billionaire Mikhail Fridman’s LetterOne investor group. This is also one of the backers for the Nord Stream 2 suspended gas pipeline. The company claims it is responsible for 1 percent of the group’s Russian sales.

BP (NYSE 🙂

British oil magnate, Royal Dutch Petroleum is Russia’s biggest foreign investor with 19.75% of Rosneft. The company also owns stakes in several oil-and gas projects in Russia.

COCA-COLA HBC

London-listed Coke bottles Coca Cola for Russia, Ukraine, as well as much of Central and Eastern Europe. Russia ranks among the company’s largest markets. It employs approximately 7,000 Russians.

DANONE

French dairy producer Prostokvanhino is controlled by the French yoghurt manufacturer and takes 6% from Russian total sales.

ENGIE

Gazprom (MCX) has five co-financiers, including the French gas utility.

EQUINOR

Norwegian oilfields have minority shares owned by the company.

Generate

Ingosstrakh is Russia’s second-largest insurer.

HEIDELBERGCEMENT

Three plants are owned by the German firm, which claims they don’t export to Russia.

METRO

Russian customers are served by the German retailer, which employs around 10,000 people.

NESTE

Although Russia is the main source of oil for Finland, two-thirds are imported from Russia. However, it claims that a large portion of its crude oil purchases come on spot markets. This allows them to be flexible to market changes.

NESTLE

According to the company’s website, six Swiss factories were operating in Russia by 2020. These included plants that make confectionary. In 2020, its Russian sales totaled $1.7billion.

NOKIAN TYRES

Finnish-owned company owns a plant in Russia and has an extensive tyre store.

RENAULT

French carmaker, Peugeot has 69% ownership in Russian joint venture Avtovaz. This Russian company is responsible for the Lada brand. It also sells over 90% of its cars locally.

ROLLS-ROYCE

According to the aero-engine manufacturer, Russia accounts for less than 2%. However 20% of its titanium is made in Russia. This includes landing gear and engine parts that are used by long-haul aircraftliners.

SAFRAN

VSMPO-AVISMA, Russia is the largest single supplier for titanium to the French aircraft maker. However, the French firm claims that Russia provides less than half of its needs.

SHELL

Anglo-Dutch oil firm owns 27.5% in Sakhali-2, a Sakhali-2 liquefied Project with an annual production capacity of 10.9 Million tonnes. Gazprom manages it. This oil company also co-finances Nord Stream 2 with five other companies.

TOTALENERGIES

According to the company’s website, the French oil giant is among the largest investors in Russia. It holds a 19.4% interest in Russia’s Novatek and a 20 percent stake in Yamal LNG 2 joint venture.

UNIPER

Nord Stream 2 has a 1 billion exposure for the German utility. Five power plants are located in Russia, each with a total capacity of 11.2 megawatts. Together they provide about 5% Russia’s total energy demand. It also imports Russian gas to Europe.

ASIAN COMPANIES

JAPAN TOBACCO

It employs around 4,000 people in its Russian plant, and the tax payments it made to the Russian Federation for 2020 represented 1.4% of its state budget. According to its website, the company claimed that its tax payments contributed 1.4%. For about five percent of its revenues, the former tobacco monopoly depends on the Commonwealth of Independent States (including Russia and Belarus).

MARUBENI CORP

Four Russian offices are home to the Japanese trading company. They sell tyres and equipment for mining, as well as a clinic that provides health checks.

MITSUBISHI CORP

There are 141 Mitsubishi Motor dealerships in Russia. It also has an interest in Sakhalin II oil and gas development project. This supplies Japan with LNG and sells coal, aluminum, nickel, and coal. The company also exports power plant equipment to Russia.

SBI HOLDINGS

SBI Bank is a bank that was founded almost 30 years ago. It offers services for corporate clients and loans to Japanese firms expanding in Russia.

TOYOTA

Its Russian plant produces Camry and RAV4 cars, while a Moscow sales office is also available. There are approximately 2,600 employees, 26 of which are Japanese, located at these locations.
