American Electric Power CEO Nick Akins stated to Jim Cramer, CNBC, that American Electric Power is confident with its cybersecurity defenses.

It’s clear that our industry has been feeling more secure around the resilience of cyber and physical security. Akins spoke out in an interview that this industry has worked with our government partners for some time. “Mad Money.”

Cramer asked Akins whether Columbus’ electric utility, AEP would be “in good condition” in the event that Russia invades its power grid. AEP currently serves over 5.5million customers across eleven states of the U.S.

After weeks of intensified aggression against its neighbour, the Russian military invading Ukraine, both U.S. governments and European governments announced Thursday additional sanctions.

The increasing tensions between Russia, the West, and Russia has put cybersecurity readiness in focus for institutions from other countries. This is especially true of those who provide critical services. Russia has been known to carry out cyberattacks. U.S. officials suspect it of being responsible for recent attacks that crippled the websites and accounts of some Ukrainian banks.

CrowdStrike’s co-founder, George Kurtz, stated in an interview with “Mad Money”, Thursday, that he has spoken to executives from U.S. banks about Russian cyberattacks.

Kurtz explained that wiper viruses have the potential to cause widespread problems. Kurtz explained, “They are basically designed to wipe a whole system.” Cyber is a broad concept that can cause collateral damage.
