REUTERS/Sergio Moraes/File Photo/File PhotoHOUSTON, (Reuters) –Exxon Mobil Corp. and United Steelworkers union (USW), reached a tentative agreement Thursday to allow employees who are currently locked out of a Beaumont Texas refinery, to be allowed to return to work early March. Sources familiar with the matter said that the deal was made by both parties.
According to two sources, before the agreement can take effect, it must be ratified in Beaumont by Exxon employees (NYSE:). The vote is scheduled for within days.
Exxon representatives were not available immediately to speak on the matter.
Exxon must now sign the return to work pact to end its lockout, which began on May 1, 2021. This was due to a strike threat and failed negotiations.
The members of USW Local 13-243 in Beaumont voted on Monday to ratify Exxon’s latest contract offer, yielding to the company on a key demand that gave Exxon control over all job assignments in the 369,024 barrel-per-day (bpd) refinery and adjoining lubricant oil plant.
