(Reuters) – Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE 🙂 announced Friday that it was being investigated by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission over employee use of communication channels not approved for the company.

In a regulatory filing, the Wall Street titan stated that it is cooperating with SEC officials and providing all documents necessary for investigation.

This inquiry was launched by regulators in October to investigate how Wall Street financial banks and other big financial companies keep track employees’ digital communications.

SEC reached out and checked with several financial institutions to ensure that all work-related communications, including messages, on employees’ personal devices were properly documented.

Industry-wide regulation comes at a moment when many companies are having difficulty keeping track of employee communications since the work-fromhome pandemic.

U.S. regulators found that J.P. Morgan Securities was fined $200 million by the U.S. for widespread failures to protect staff communications via personal messaging apps, mobile phones, and email.
