Chris Licht to become new CNN president following Jeff Zucker ouster

Chris Licht, a long-time TV producer is to be the next President of CNN. Jeff Zucker’s resignation earlier this month.

Licht was the creator of MSNBC’s Morning Joe and relaunched other shows like “CBS This Morning” or “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.” He currently serves as an executive producer and showrunner.

He is expected to step into the new role after CNN’s corporate parent, WarnerMedia, gets acquired by Discovery. It is expected that the much-awaited merger will occur sometime around April.

The appointment is still in the works, but no comment has been made by any of the involved parties. CNN reported Saturday that Licht’s hiring will be officially announced next week.

This news was reported for the first time by Puck.newsAccording to him, Licht was the top candidate for Zucker’s job after Discovery CEO David Zaslav expressed interest in him.

Zucker, CNN’s President and CEO, resigned on February 2, after failing to declare a “CNN” scandal.consensual relationship with my closest colleague.” This issue was raised when CNN investigated Chris Cuomo, a former CNN anchor who had helped his brother, the former governor of New York. Andrew Cuomo, manage sexual misconduct allegations made against him.

Licht is a television journalist with more than twenty years experience. He has built a strong reputation for being a skilled producer of news and politics, as well as an experienced talent manager.

His current contract with CBS is set to end in April, just in time to takeover his new role as CNN gets ready to undergo a shakeup following the Discovery-WarnerMedia merger.
