TAIPEI (Reuters – Taiwan’s semiconductor companies have been complying with Russian export control laws, which were imposed as part of the sanctions against Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.

Taiwan has announced that it will join the international sanctions against Russia.

According to the Economy Ministry, it is following the Wassenaar Agreement on dual-use products and technology export control, which was signed by 42 countries in 1996, and strictly inspects any Russian goods sent there.

It added that domestic semiconductor producers have expressed their willingness to abide by laws and cooperate closely with government actions, but did not elaborate.

TSMC declared last week it would adhere to all export control regulations. The TSMC declined any further comments on Sunday.

Taiwan is not a signatory of the Wassenaar Arrangement because it has been claimed by China its territory.

However, the government loves to demonstrate that they are responsible members of the international community when following United Nations sanctions against North Korea because of its missile testing and nuclear test.

Exports from Taiwan to Russia are very low.

According to the government, Taiwan is not expecting any impact on its supply of semiconductor raw materials from Ukraine’s war.
