BRUSSELS (Reuters), – The EU’s executive declared on Sunday that Europe faced its worst humanitarian crisis for many years after Russia invaded Ukraine. More than 7 millions Ukrainians could have been internally displaced as a result of the violence.

We are currently witnessing the worst humanitarian crisis in Europe for many, many decades. Janez Lenarcic is the European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management.

After a meeting with EU interior ministers, he said that the current humanitarian situation in Ukraine was more than 7 million.

He cited U.N. estimates that around 18,000,000 Ukrainians would be affected by conflict in humanitarian terms.

Lenarcic stated that although these estimates are only rough estimates, the magnitude of the emergency is historical and should be anticipated.
