ORLANDO (Reuters) – A staggering 59% of CPAC attendees in Florida desire former Republican President Donald Trump as their party’s candidate for 2024, according to a poll that was released Sunday.
Trump has an unrivalled influence on the Republican base. His closest competitor, Ron DeSantis from Florida, received only 28% of the votes at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando.
CPAC draws from conservative wings of the Republican Party. Its polls do not always predict the eventual nominee. In its 2016 straw poll, Ted Cruz from Texas defeated his rivals, but Trump won.
