TOKYO (Reuters – Japan’s central bank officers and the government of Japan will gather Monday to discuss the market. It is their first meeting in about a year. The gathering comes as financial fallouts from Russia’s invasion in Ukraine continue to grow.

Masato Kanda (vice finance minister for international affairs) will meet with his counterparts from the Bank of Japan (0200 GMT), according to the agencies.

The statement stated that Kanda would speak with reporters following the meeting.

The trilateral meeting usually takes place during market stress in order to relay concerns or policymakers’ opinions on stock and exchange-rate volatility. This meeting last took place last January.

On Monday, safe-haven currencies like the dollar and yen were highly sought after Western countries imposed additional sanctions on Russia in response to its invasion Ukraine. This included blocking certain banks of SWIFT International Payments System.
