Satellite firm Viasat probes suspected cyberattack in Ukraine and elsewhere -Breaking

(Reuters] – Viasat Inc., a U.S. satellite communications company listed on Monday said it was looking into a cyberattack that had caused a temporary outage of its residential broadband services for Ukraine and other European nations.

Viasat stated that a third party cybersecurity company was investigating the cause of an outage on its KA-SAT network. This provides high-speed internet coverage throughout Europe and Mediterranean.

Sky News reports that the outage may have occurred as a result of a distributed attack on service (DDoS). These attacks struck a variety of Ukrainian government and bank websites just before Russia invaded Ukraine last week.

According to the company, “our investigation continues into the outage, but we believe that it was caused due to a cyber incident,” they released a statement. They also said it wasn’t immediately clear whether customer data was affected.

Vladimir Putin’s government claims that the West has made up cyberwarfare accusations to try and blacken Russia’s image.
