HOUSTON (Reuters). Apparently, Exxon Mobil began removing American employees from Russia. This was according to a source familiar with the situation. These employees are from Sakhalin Island’s large-scale oil and gas production.

Exxon (NYSE 🙂 employed over 1,000 Russian workers last year, with offices located in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg. According to the company’s website.

It operates three vast offshore oil and natural gas fields, with Sakhalin Island being its main base. It was unclear how many of the expatriate workers were evacuated on Tuesday.

Exxon representatives did not respond to our request for comment.

Over the Russian invasion of Ukraine, pressure has mounted on the company to cut ties with Russia. Equinor, Shell (LON) Plc, and BP (NYSE) Plc announced or halted plans to withdraw from Russian investment or halt their operations.

According to Exxon’s website, the Sakhalin facility, which Exxon operated from 2005 when production started, is one of Russia’s largest direct investments. This operation can pump up to 300,000.00 barrels of oil and natural gas per day.
