(Reuters] -Shell has apologised that it bought Russian fuel last week and announced its complete withdrawal from Russian involvement in any future purchases of hydrocarbons. This was due to Ukraine’s invasion.

Shell (LON) Chief Executive Officer Ben van Beurden admitted that the decision to buy a Russian oil cargo last week was wrong.

According to the British energy giant, it will change its crude oil supply chain in order to eliminate volumes from sanctions-hit countries “as quickly as possible”, and close its service stations and Russian aviation fuels and oils operations.

According to the company, this change will take several weeks and result in a reduction of throughput in some refineries.
