Dual national charged with acting as illegal Russian agent in U.S. -prosecutors -Breaking

NEW YORK (Reuters] – A double national from the United States as well Russia was charged Tuesday with illegally acting as an agent of Russia’s government.

Elena Branson (61) is facing six criminal charges over an allegation that she did not register as a foreign agent with the U.S. Government. Prosecutors said she is still at large and left the United States in 2020 for Russia.

These charges are in line with US efforts to pressure Russia with economic sanctions due to its invasion of Ukraine.

Damian Williams, U.S. attorney in Manhattan, stated in a statement that “particularly in light of current global events the need to detect und hinder attempts at foreign interference is of crucial importance.”
