(Reuters) -Electric-car manufacturer Tesla (NASDAQ:) Inc increased Wednesday’s prices of the Model Y SUVs in America and Model 3 Long Range sedans in China by $1,000, and some Model 3 and Model Y vehicles were raised by 10,000 yuan (1,582.40), respectively according to its website.

According to data compiled by Reuters, Model 3 and Model Y prices were increased about a dozen more times last year in the United States.

U.S. prices of the EV maker’s Model Y Long Range vehicle have jumped by 20% over January 2021. There has also been a 10.6% rise in its Model 3 Long Range sedan price.

The decision is made amid rising raw materials costs and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This could put a halt to Elon Musk’s dream and that of other executives in auto industry of making more affordable electric vehicles.

Rising prices of nickel, lithium and other materials threaten to slow and even temporarily reverse the long-term trend of falling costs of batteries — the most expensive part of EVs — hampering the broader adoption of the technology, said Gregory Miller, an analyst at industry forecaster Benchmark Mineral Intelligence.
