Ex-Canadian government official extradited to face charges over ransomware attacks -Breaking

WASHINGTON (Reuters). A Canadian former government official was extradited to America to face criminal charges. He is accused of using ransomware, known as NetWalker, to target law enforcement officers, companies and municipalities at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
After being indicted in Florida by a federal grand jury, the U.S. Justice Department announced that Sebastien Valchon-Desjardins (34), of Gatineau in Quebec was extradited Wednesday.
Prosecutors claim that Vachon Desjardins has been accused of starting a series ransomware attacks in April and December 2020.
Investigators seized 719 bitcoin in the course of a January 2021 search at his house. The value is more than $28million.
