U.S. stocks lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.34% -Breaking

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

The index fell 0.34% at the close of NYSE. It declined 0.43% and lost 0.95%.

They were the top performers at the session Chevron Corp (NYSE:) rose 2.74%, or 4.55 points, to close at 170.82. Walmart Inc (NYSE 🙂 gained 2.27%, or 3.17 points, to close at 142.63. Dow Inc (NYSE 🙂 was also up 1.39%, or 0.83 points, to 60.63 late trade.

Apple Inc (NASDAQ.) fell 4.43 points or 2.72% to end at 158.52 by the close. Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:) declined 2.57% or 3.83 points to end at 144.94 and Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:) was down 2.16% or 1.21 points to 54.71.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Halliburton Company (NYSE:) which rose 8.93% to 37.95, Baker Hughes Co (NYSE) was up 8.67% and settled at 36.74. Mosaic Co, (NYSE) gained 7.74% to close out at 62.19.

They were among the most disappointing. Etsy Inc (NASDAQ:) was down 5.35% at 136.98 in trade late, EPAM Systems Inc(NYSE:) lost 4.86% to settle for 188.76 MSCI Inc (NYSE:), which fell 4.69% at 465.26 by the end.

Hycroft Mining Holding Corporation (NASDAQ) was among the best performers in the NASDAQ Composite. It rose 138.10% from 1.50 to 1.50. AgriFORCE Growing Systems Ltd (NASDAQ:), which was up 102.37%, to settle at 3.42 Hoth Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:), which saw 38.79% increase to 0.80.

The worst performers were Trean Insurance Group Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 51.70% to 3.40 in late trade, Fossil Group Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 37.51% to settle at 9.08 and TherapeuticsMD Inc (NASDAQ:) The close was 27.50% lower at 0.29

On the New York Stock Exchange, falling stocks outnumbered those that advanced by 1836, 1367, and 128. The Nasdaq Stock Exchange ended unchanged with 2282 declining and 1463 moving. 253 ending unchanged.

Halliburton Company shares (NYSE:), rose to new 3-year highs. This was an 8.93% increase or 3.11-37.95. Baker Hughes Co. (NYSE:), shares rose to new 3-year highs, gaining 8.67% (2.93 to 36.74). Mosaic Co. shares (NYSE:) reached 5-year highs. They gained 7.74%, or 4.47 to 62.19. Chevron Corp (NYSE) shares rose to their highest levels ever, gaining 2.74% (4.55 to 170.82). Shares in Trean Insurance Group Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; down 51.70% or 3.64 to 3.40. The shares of Fossil Group Inc. (NASDAQ:), fell 52 weeks to the lowest point, dropping 37.51% or 9.45.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 6.84% to 30.23.

The April delivery of Gold Futures was up 0.8%, or 13.60, to $2.001.80 per troy ounce. In commodities trading, crude oil fell 2.87 percent or $2.87 to reach $105.83 per barrel. The May Brent oil contract dropped 0.04 or 0.04% to trade at $109.15 per barrel.

EUR/USD was stable at 1.10, but USD/JPY rose by 0.00% to 116.24.

At 98.53, the US Dollar Index Futures rose 0.58%.
