(Reuters] – Tom Brady announced that he is ending his seven-year-old Super Bowl-winning career and would be returning to Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 23rd season, just six weeks following his retirement announcement.

Brady, who has been regarded as the best player in National Football League history was stunned by the surprising turn of his face.

Brady stated that he realized his place on the field is not where he should be, and said so on Twitter (NYSE.) It will be there. But it’s not now. My teammates and my family are my greatest supporters.

“They make it possible. My 23rd season is in Tampa. LFG is still unfinished.

The Buccaneers quickly reacted to Brady’s announcement with their own tweet: “He is baaackkkk”, with a clip of the quarterback entering the field.

Brady was 44 when he played 20 seasons for the New England Patriots. Brady won six Super Bowls. After that, he moved to Tampa Bay to lead the Bucs in their inaugural season.

Brady decided to take his retirement on February 1, which was not surprising, given that he had experienced one of the most memorable seasons of his career.

After leading the NFL’s passing yards and touchdown passes, Brady was considered a strong contender for the fourth most valuable player award.

Brady’s quick return will put an end to the Buccaneers search for a starter quarterback.

Rumours circulated that Tampa might be interested in Russell Wilson’s acquisition. He was traded last week from the Seattle Seahawks and was now with the Denver Broncos.

Brady, a prospect not well-known in college, was the 199th selection in 2000 NFL Draft. However, he made the best of it and helped turn around the Patriots’ fortunes.

Brady started the 2001 season as a backup, but he took over in the second half of the season when Drew Bledsoe fell ill. The role was never returned to Brady.

Brady led the Patriots to an 11-3 record that season, which culminated with an upset win over of the St. Louis Rams in the Super Bowl where he was named the game’s MVP, beginning one of the greatest dynasties across any sport.
