Texas City Austin Accepts Cryptocurrency Payments

Austin, Texas may soon accept cryptocurrency for payment. Steve Adler joins New York City and Miami mayors, both of whom have adopted blockchain technology in order to give their constituents benefits and other opportunities.

Adler plans to use blockchain technology for a variety of services in the city, including payment processing, consumer activities and data security. Mayor Adler wants to make the city a hub for innovation and high-tech technology.

The Austin City Council will discuss the possibility of accepting and other cryptocurrency as payment methods for taxes and fees.

“We want to be part of the cities that are thinking big and bold and attracting talent,”
Adler said.

“The City Manager is directed to consider supporting, participating in or organizing the facilitating of the creation and development of blockchain technologies through activities such as, without limitation, hackathons, accelerators, incubators, contests, challenges, and prizes,”
