Google-backed start-up launches free carbon emissions tracker

A Swedish start-up, Normative is backed GoogleAs companies try to reduce their carbon footprints,, launched an updated version of its carbon emission tracker that is free for all.
Carbon calculator provides small to medium businesses with a baseline from which to take actions after entering data in a form. A paid-for product, which Normative sells to large organizations, is also offered by Normative.
The climate crisis is primarily caused by the use of fossil fuels. However, oil and gas will continue to be the main energy source for the planet in the next decade. Even though world leaders, CEOs and others repeatedly proclaim their support of the “energy transformation”, this is happening.
According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, 95% of global businesses are SMEs. They play a crucial role in creating the services and products of big corporations.
Accessible and more accurate
Kristian Ronn is the CEO and cofounder of Normative. He stated in a statement that, “We must act now.” The climate is not going to wait for us.
He added, “We want all people to have the ability to participate in the Race to Net Zero and measure their carbon emissions.”
Google.org is Google’s charity arm. It has around a dozen members. helped to build the free carbon calculatorNormative is supported by software engineers, UX design professionals, and product mangers on a pro bono basis.
Google.org provided 1 million euro ($1.1 million) in support of the search giant.
CNBC interviewed Jen Carter, Google.org’s Head of Technology and Volunteering, in October. She said it was essential to accurately measure carbon emissions if small businesses are going to be able understand the consequences of their actions. She said, “We are thrilled to offer both financial support and technical talent to help Normative create a measurement solution that makes measurements more accessible.”
Normative was launched in 2014. It has received support from Chris Sacca, a billionaire investor and Lowercarbon Capital. Access to the software is charged by hundreds of companies, including French bank BNP paribas. Rates vary depending on how large the client.
Technology giants strive to be the most environmentally-friendly companies in the world.
Google is carbon neutral since 2007. This means that it has purchased carbon credits, planted trees and paid large amounts for wind power to compensate its use of natural gas and coal power elsewhere.
Google stated in September 2020 that it aimed to have its offices and data centers powered 24/7 by carbon-free electricity. In 2019, 61% of Google’s worldwide hourly electricity consumption was from wind, solar, and other renewable resources.
This will be in May 2020 the search giant pledged to stop building customized artificial intelligence tools for oil and gas firms.
