GSK to supply essential medicines to Russia, halt clinical trials -Breaking

(Reuters) -GSK, the British pharmaceutical company, will continue to supply essential medicine and vaccines in Russia, but it will not be participating in clinical trials. This is due to sanctions on Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine. It joins other drug companies that have made similar moves.

The London-listed company will not start any new clinical trials in Russia or enrol more patients into existing studies, an update on its website https://www.gsk.com/en-gb/media/resource-centre/our-response-to-the-situation-in-ukraine/?linkId=100000115602796 showed on Thursday.

As medicines, medical equipment and other devices are essential for humanitarian purposes and exempt from sanctions, the healthcare sector is not leaving.

Merck, Pfizer (NYSE :), Eli Lilly, Novartis, Abbvie all have stopped investing in Russia and are scaling back.

GSK stated that it has stopped advertising products in Russia, and will also cease promotion-related activities. Any profits made from Russian operations will go towards humanitarian relief.

A spokesperson for the company told Reuters that it does not operate manufacturing in Russia or Ukraine. It also has limited raw material reliance and supply chain responsibilities on these two countries.

The annual group sales of Russia and Ukraine exceed 500 million pounds (658.65 millions).
