MADRID (Reuters). – A strike of truck drivers in Spain has disrupted some supermarkets, and some industries in Spain. Dairy food producers were complaining that they are experiencing shortages because they have received less milk on Thursday.

The Platform for the Defence of Transport was a group of truck drivers and owners. They demanded lower taxes and fewer regulations in an effort to ameliorate a “total bankruptcy” situation.

Jose Hernandez said, Jose Hernandez was a Platform representative. He is also a truck driver who lost their job on March 7. The fees he earned weren’t enough to cover the costs of his company, so he closed it down.

The escalating energy cost, caused by Russia’s invasion and occupation of Ukraine, has contributed to general price increases. This could slow down recovery from the pandemic, as well as generating discontent among many other countries.

Spanish Federation of Food and Drink Industries (FIAB), urged Spain to take action against roadblockages in Spain. These blockages have partly impeded supply of cow feed, processing materials for factories and some products from supermarkets.

Some pickets turned violent.

“We must not allow a violent minority take over the rights and freedoms of a majority that want to work,” Mauricio Gonzalez de Quevedo said, FIAB’s Head.

Raquel Sanchez (Transport Minister) called the protest a boycott linked to far right groups. Hernandez refuted Hernandez’s claim that the Platform was non-partisan. To ensure food supplies, the Interior Ministry increased security by adding 23600 officers to its roads.

In order to prevent a three-day strike, the government has reached an understanding with major truckers’ unions in the country.
