Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:) Bing, China’s only foreign search engine, stated that a “relevant agency” had ordered it to stop auto-suggest functions in China for seven consecutive days.
This is the second suspension of this nature for Bing since December. It comes amid a continuing crackdown against technology platforms from Beijing.
Chinese internet users first saw the suspension Saturday.
Bing, a Chinese search portal stated: “Bing remains a global platform for searching and is committed to respecting both the rule-of-law and users’ rights to access information.”
Bing did no specify why the suspension was made. Microsoft has not yet responded to my request for comment.
