MILAN (Reuters) – The Italian luxury car brand Lamborghini, a premium sports car manufacturer, can quickly make up the lost sales it suffered from suspending business in Russia after Moscow invaded Ukraine, said Chief Executive Stephan Winkelmann on Monday.

Winkelmann claimed that Lamborghini (part of the Volkswagen Group through Audi) sold an unprecedented 200 Russian vehicles last year. That’s compared to an 8,405 global record.

He stated that the cars that we had planned to make for Russia in this year’s production can easily be absorbed by other markets during a press conference.

“We are waiting to see the Ukraine situation, but we’ll be able absorb any demand if it doesn’t change. Thanks to our strong orders and waiting list,

Lamborghini will offer hybrid cars starting next year. It plans to make all its models – including the Huracan, Aventador and Urus sports cars – plug in hybrids between 2024-2025.

The second half of this decade will see the production of its first electric vehicle. Winkelmann stated that the vehicle’s production will take place in Bologna (northern Italy) where it was originally planned.

“There’s room for production to be increased,” he stated, while not setting a target on Lamborghini’s future cars.

Winkelmann announced that two new Huracan versions and an “facelift” of Urus will be presented by the carmaker during 2012.

According to the CEO, Lamborghini reported a margin in operating profit of 20.2% last fiscal year, against a target range of 22-25% for the next years.
