(Reuters) – Monday’s comments by Disney CEO Bob Chapek to employees were a reminder that the company had made a mistake in not speaking out on Florida legislation. He pledged to make the moment a turning point for the cause of change and assure them they will continue their silence on the matter.

At a virtual town-hall for employees, the comments were made amid internal turmoil at Disney. The company had changed its public statements regarding the bill, which some critics refer to as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

A group of employees organized a weeklong walk-out in support of Disney’s LGBTQ+ workers, their families, communities. For Tuesday, there will be a one-day walkout.

According to Reuters, Chapek said that “we know the moment demands urgency – words are not sufficient.” We are now taking action.

According to the three people who heard Paul Richardson’s presentation, Disney’s chief of human resources officer said that the company cancelled a Leadership Meeting in Orlando and a Diversity Event scheduled for April 13 so employees could listen to executives.

Disney separately stated that Chapek will be joined by his top leaders for a worldwide listening tour. They’ll also meet employees across the United States.

Disney announced that it had established a LGBTQ+ Task Force to lead by Paul Roeder, senior Vice President Communications at the Studios, and Lisa Becket, executive vice president global marketing for Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products.

According to the company, the task force will seek the assistance of specialists to create a plan that ensures Disney remains “a force for goodness” for LGBTQ+ families and children.

It reiterated its resolve to stop political contributions in Florida and stated that it will support the Human Rights Campaign against Governor Greg Abbott’s executive orders requiring the Texas child welfare agency to treat Gender-affirming treatments as “child abuse.”

Benjamin Siemon (a Disney TV animations writer who is homosexual) welcomed executives’ apology.

That means a lot. Siemon declared that this was the right decision in a tweet (NYSE:).

However, he said that Disney’s employees were afraid that it would continue to donate to political candidates who had supported the legislation. He asked for the company to end the temporary pause.

Florida Republican Governor. Ron DeSantis accused Disney of being “woke”, as the company opposed the legislation following employee protests.

Siemon, an animation writer, stated that you will be called “woke” no matter how much you do.

After Minnie Mouse spent a month in Paris in a trousersuit, you now have the reputation of being woke. Do the right things for your employees and be awake.
