Senate nominee Ketanji brown Jackson for Supreme Court is scheduled to respond to senators’ questions Tuesday, the second day in her confirmation hearings. Republicans will scrutinize her judicial records and outlook.

Jackson’s first appearance on Monday before the Senate Judiciary Committee offered a summary defense of her career from the bench. She said she looks at her cases “from a neutral posture” and applies the law “without fear or favor.”

Jackson’s cross-examination by lawmakers in the public forum will take place Tuesday. This is the first opportunity for Jackson to be allowed to testify under oath since President Joe Biden appointed her to the Supreme Court. Prior to this meeting, Jackson met with senators at Capitol Hill.

Jackson is a 51-year old judge at the U.S. Court of Appeals District of Columbia Circuit. She would, if confirmed, become the first Black woman on the U.S. supreme court. Jackson was the first Biden nominee and would replace one liberal justice by another.

The conservatives on the High Court currently have a 6-3 advantage over the liberals.
