(Reuters) – MacKenzie Scott is a multi-billionaire philanthropist who donated $275 million for Planned Parenthood. It was the biggest gift by a single donor during Planned Parenthood’s 100-year-old history.

Scott pledged to give all her wealth to Planned Parenthood, and the national office as well as 21 regional affiliates.

Scott was married to Dan Jewett in Seattle, and she received a 4% share of Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ) during her divorce from Jeff Bezos.

Planned Parenthood is at forefront of the debate over abortion rights in America.

The United States’ access to abortion is declining as Republican-led states tighten restrictions, such as a Texas ban that prohibits all but the most extreme forms of abortion. This has withstanded legal challenges.

According to conservatives, the U.S. Supreme Court will likely change constitutional protections against abortion in spring.

According to the court, it is open to restoring a Mississippi ban against abortions within 15 weeks. It would go against the 1972 Roe v. Wade ruling that allowed abortions before the fetus was viable. This is approximately 24 weeks.

“We are incredibly grateful for Ms. Scott’s extraordinary philanthropic investment in Planned Parenthood, as a critical part of the public health infrastructure,” Planned Parenthood Chief Executive Alexis McGill Johnson said in a statement.

This funding will help us to improve health equity and eliminate racial or structural barriers that prevent our patients from accessing Planned Parenthood services in communities.

Scott stated in a Medium posting on Wednesday that she has donated over $3.8 billion since June to 465 organizations including Planned Parenthood.

“Our team’s focus over these last nine months has included some new areas, but as always our aim has been to support the needs of underrepresented people from groups of all kinds. “The cause of equity does not have any sides,” she said.

Habitat for Humanity revealed Tuesday that Scott donated $436 Million to the charity. This money will be used for its efforts in Black homeownership and affordable housing.

Forbes reported that Scott had a value of $49 billion at Wednesday’s close.
