crowdEats has won a grant from the DFINITY Foundation’s developer program to build on the Internet Computer.
crowdEats’ mission is to fix the broken system of online reviews. On platforms like Yelp (NYSE:), 20 percent of reviews are paid for by businesses trying to boost their rankings (or competitors hoping to torpedo their rivals).
crowdEats is a blockchain-based technology company that solves this problem. They incentivize honest reviews from the public, which are then moderated and rewarded according their contribution. Online-review firms have made a fortune off of free labor for decades. But with crowdEats, users can finally get their cut — and trust that the ratings at their bucket-list restaurants are genuine.
DFINITY awarded crowdEats an ICP grant to support its growth. Within a matter of months, the ICP attracted thousands upon thousands of developers and hundreds of thousands of people to its decentralized apps (dapps) within a short time. It was launched in May 2021. Decentralized versions of Reddit, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Medium, Dropbox (NASDAQ:), and Trello — as well as DeFi platforms, NFT marketplaces and games — are already up and running with users on the Internet Computer.
DFINITY Developer Grant Program supports promising teams and aims to accelerate the development of the Internet Computer ecosystem. Each grant is designed to give projects runway to focus on key development areas including:
- Developer tooling
- Dapp infrastructure
- Integrations and APIs
- Open internet services
- Canister development kits (CDKs) and agents
The DFINITY Foundation is committed to providing follow-on grants to projects that show progress from initial grants.
Sixty-five grantees have so far received $1,145,000 from the nearly quarter of a billion dollars offered by DFINITY’s grant program since May 2021. It is one of the blockchain sector’s biggest developer grant programs. The complete grant list and application guidelines can be found here.
This grants program provides funding for projects in progress that address critical problems within the connected world. This program is not intended to provide venture financing. Consider applying for the Beacon Fund if you’re actively raising money.
