South Korean pop-star Jessica Jung might be best known for being a former member of K-pop band Girls’ Generation, but she’s now branched into the business world as the owner of her own fashion label, Blanc & Eclare.

Describing herself as an “explorer,” the 32-year-old singer-turned-entrepreneur said the transition from entertainment to fashion was “natural,” adding that she “had a great following in the fashion world.”

Social media influencer is a commitment that requires a lot of time and effort. She has over 9.9million Instagram followers.

Her secret?

Her secret? “You must be authentic and have your own character. That’s how you can create a bond between yourself and your followers. That’s how it grows,” she told CNBC’s Inside E-commerce.

Jung also gave credit to her fans for her success. My career began in an age when social media had just begun to grow roots. Together, my followers and I built it.

According to Jung, a mixture of brand content and personal content via social media is a great idea.

If I have brand content I must post, that is what I do. Jung explained that she would then post genuine everyday activities and daily fashion for my fans.

According to a “Social Salary Calculator” by music licensing platform Lickd.co, social media influencers with over 100,000 followers on Instagram can typically earn over $4,000 per Instagram post.

It’s important to show authenticity and to create a unique character. You and your followers will then feel connected.

Jung has her concerns about social media as well.

It can create insecurity for people,” she stated, referring to social media’s “like” button. I’ve witnessed it happen to many people.

Life during the pandemic

As for her life during the pandemic, Jung said that her travelling lifestyle has been put on hold and she is now based in South Korea.

“I was always traveling, and then I returned to Korea to unpack my belongings and start over. But now I’m here — full time,” Jung said.

This change has led to the launch of her first Seoul flagship store for Blanc & Eclare in January 2021, a luxury fashion brand which sells classic wear and accessories, like sunglasses, for women. Clareau, her own restaurant on the 2nd floor, is also open. It serves modern French cuisine.

She has been enjoying South Korea, despite not being able travel as often as she used to. It was something I never thought I would enjoy, but it is something I love because it reminds me of home. I had time to take care of myself — mentally and physically.”

Jung plans on releasing singles over the course of the year. The album will then be completed, something which was delayed initially due to Covid-19.

CNBC has confirmed that she will host a new season with Krystal, her sister from K-pop girl band f(x), in late September.

Jung revealed that her new book, “Bright”, a sequel of her New York Times Bestseller “Shine”, will be available in mid-2022.
