BRUSSELS (Reuters) -The European Commission said on Tuesday it would make sense for the United States to allow travel by people vaccinated with the AstraZeneca (NASDAQ:) COVID-19 shots which have yet to be approved by U.S. regulators.

The White House announced Monday that it will lift travel restrictions for EU citizens from November, which also includes those who have been fully vaccinated. American authorities weren’t clear about which vaccinations were acceptable.

Eric Mamer, spokesperson for the EU Commission said that “We believe AstraZeneca is safe.”

According to Eric Mamer, spokesperson for the EU Commission, “It would be sensible that people who have received AstraZeneca vaccinations can travel.” He also noted that the decision was made by the U.S. authorities.

The regulatory U.S. Food and Drug Administration has so far authorised for use the COVID-19 vaccines produced by Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna (NASDAQ:) and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:), but is still reviewing the AstraZeneca shot.

Public data shows that the AstraZeneca vaccine has been approved to be used in all 27 EU member countries, where approximately 70,000,000 shots have been taken.

Following a rise in U.S.-related cases, each EU country has its own safe travel list.

EU countries are reluctant to accept any foreign nationals who have had shots not approved by the EU.
