LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Former supermodel Linda Evangelista has filed a $50 million lawsuit over cosmetic procedures that she says left her “brutally disfigured” and turned her into a recluse.

In an Instagram posting, the Canadian model who was one of the most prominent on magazine covers and runways in 1990s, Linda Evangelista stated that she had been treated to lose weight five years prior.

“To my followers who have wondered why I have not been working while my peers’ careers have been thriving, the reason is that I was brutally disfigured by Zeltiq’s CoolSculpting procedure which did the opposite of what it promised,” she wrote in the posting on Wednesday.

After the procedure, she experienced a rare side effect known as paradoxical adipose Hyperplasia (PAH), which results in swelling.

“PAH has not only destroyed my livelihood, it has sent me into a cycle of deep depression, profound sadness, and the lowest depths of self-loathing. In the process, I have become a recluse,” she said.

Zeltiq Aesthetics was a subsidiary of Allergan’s (NYSE) Aesthetics. The parent company AbbVie, (NYSE) Aesthetics), didn’t return a call.

Evangelista filed suit against Zeltiq Tuesday in New York Federal court for misleading advertising, negligence and failure to warn about side effects.

Evangelista was accused of having undergone multiple surgeries between 2015-2016 to lose fat in her thighs and abdomen. Incorrective surgery failed to correct the PAH.

In addition to seeking $50M in damages, she also claims that her PAH has made it impossible for her to be a successful model.
