U.S. Senate panel sets hearing on Russian gas pipeline amid Ukraine concerns By Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee scheduled a closed-door hearing on Sept. 29 to discuss Russia’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which several lawmakers say could harm allies in Eastern Europe.
According to the website of the committee, Amos Hochstein will be testifying.
According to the website, both American and European legislators, Republicans and Democrats, were against the $11 million pipeline. This would allow Russia to export more gas to Europe and Europe, as well as bypassing Ukraine, which is a potential source of income.
Gazprom of Russia (MCX:), stated that the pipeline was completed earlier this month. The pipeline would carry gas from Russia via the Baltic Sea.
Germany was urged by Biden to prevent Russia using the pipeline for harm to Ukraine or any other Eastern Europe allies.
Biden’s administration concluded that Nord Stream 2 AG (the company behind this project) and its chief executives engaged in unacceptable behavior in May. To allow for time to reach a settlement and rebuild ties with Germany, which were severely damaged by the Trump administration’s rule, President Joe Biden lifted all sanctions.
Members of Congress are putting pressure on the president to stop the waiver and impose sanctions. Republican Senator Ted Cruz is a member the foreign relations committee and holds up many of Biden’s nominations for State Department positions until sanctions are in place.
