American Airlines pilots’ union says company managers should be replaced because of hundreds of flight disruptions that affected tens of thousands of customers this year.

A resolution was approved by the Allied Pilots Association board this week calling for the replacement of airline managers. The resolution stated that employees had not provided reliable service which, in turn, damaged the carrier’s reputation.

According to the resolution, the board of directors believes that it would be in the best interests of American Airlines shareholders and employees as well as the communities served by the airline, along with the travelling public, for management members responsible for running the American Airlines operations to be replaced. It is not asking for the replacement of top managers.

According to the resolution, cancellations during Father’s Day Weekend in June affected 60,000 customers.

American cut its schedule in July by about 1 percent due to staff shortages. American and other airlines including Southwest have had to trim ambitious flight schedules after a lack of workers exacerbated flight disruptions over the summer.

American refused to discuss the resolution of the union, but sent a memo to its pilots prior to Labor Day informing them that their pilot staffing levels had increased during the summer.

The memo stated that “We are happy with where we stand today” and had worked hard to make sure we were set up for success in the remainder of the year.
