WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A self-identified member of the far right Proud Boys group nicknamed “Milkshake” pleaded not guilty on Friday to assaulting police and other charges stemming from the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol riot.

Daniel Scott, a 27-year-old man from Florida who also resides in Seattle, now faces 10 criminal charges.

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Scott pulled an officer in the protesters’ crowd by pushing them backwards up a staircase at the Capitol’s West Terrace.

The FBI says Scott wore a blue hat inscribed “GOD, Guns & TRUMP” and that the words “Proud Boy” were tattooed on one of his arms. Scott is shown in court with Ethan Nordean who was allegedly one of Proud Boys’ leaders.

Scott entered not guilty plea at Washington District Court. However, William Dreher, the prosecutor, told Emmett Sullivan that he was open to discussing plea negotiations.

Prosecutors are targeting the Proud Boys as one of three right-wing militia organizations for their participation in the Riot by Trump Supporters that broke out while Congress was certifying Joe Biden’s election win.

Over 600 people have been charged with rioting.
