OTTAWA (Reuters) – Two Canadian citizens who were detained by Beijing for more than 1,000 days have left Chinese airspace and will arrive back in Canada early on Saturday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told reporters on Friday.
Michael Kovrig, and Michael Spavor were taken into custody in December 2018. They were arrested shortly after Meng Wanzhou (chief financial officer of Huawei Technologies Co Ltd) was detained by Vancouver police. Meng flew to China just before Trudeau’s speech, after she reached a settlement with U.S. authorities.
