RAMALLAH, West Bank (Reuters) -Israeli forces killed at least four Palestinians during a raid in the occupied West Bank on Sunday, the Palestinian Health Ministry said.
In a statement by Naftali Bennett the Israeli Prime Minister said that Israeli forces were conducting an operation against Hamas terrorists, who are about to launch terrorist attacks.
The Israeli military spokesperson did not immediately comment and Bennett made no reference to casualties.
Israeli officials have been concerned for years that Hamas, the Gaza Strip’s ruler, is trying to consolidate its power and threaten the PA, the Western-backed Palestinian Authority.
According to the PA Health Ministry, three Palestinians died in Biddu (northwest of Jerusalem) on West Bank. Another Palestinian died in Burqin near Jenin, according to the PA Health Ministry.
The raids in West Bank were reportedly carried out by militants with the intention of capturing Hamas leaders, according to reports on Israel’s major radio stations and news sites.
