(Reuters) – Lewis Hamilton became the first Formula One driver to win 100 races with a victory in Russia that sent him back on top of the championship.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen came in second after Hamilton started last. This allowed Hamilton to keep the lead at two points. Ferrari’s third place finisher was Carlos Sainz, a Spaniard (NYSE:).

Hamilton, seven-time world champion, celebrated his personal 100th birthday. However, the Mercedes team kept their 100% record at Sochi. Since 2014, the Russian Grand Prix has been won by the champions.
