In an unfortunate error, Bitfinex’s wallet paid $23.7million in transaction fees to send $100,000 USDT in Tether (USDT).

Bitfinex’s spinoff DeversiFi was reportedly responsible for the transaction. It is a platform that allows users to access DeFi protocols and does not charge gas fees. Bitfinex apparently pays transaction fees using one of its main wallets. This means that they pay the entire transaction cost.

DeversiFi Spokesperson said,

At 11:10 UTC on the 27th September a deposit transaction was made using a hardware wallet from the main DeversiFi user interface with an erroneously high gas fee.
