Gala Games From the Perspective of a Gamer
  • While the early-access approach is a last resort in the traditional gaming industry, blockchain games release their tokens and NFTs much earlier than players can check a real game.
  • This may mean that traditional gamers are a minor part of blockchain games’ audience. People in crypto, on the other hand, are used to this method.
  • Because blockchain gaming is based on crypto, it employs the same methods. One example is initial gaming offerings.

Gamers can be very selective. Even though they’re a predominantly young crowd, gamers tend to be very picky about what they want. They also expect a polished product.

The examples of such projects as No Man’s Sky and Star Wars Battlefront II showed that even bending the truth could lead to failure. In the first example, developers gave too little and published the game too late. Although the game itself was excellent, it wasn’t accepted by many gamers due to the difficult internal microtransactions.

On the other hand, it’s a massive audience, which always was a tidbit for the biggest studios. That’s why they tend to dance to their tune. However, it can also kill their desire for experimentation. For this reason, there are indie developers willing to explore new possibilities.

Gaming players know what they pay for. Even the smallest hint of fishy smell could cause serious losses to gaming companies.

How did crypto gaming manage to survive and experience such a strong upturn in 2018? Let’s try to answer this through the prism of the latest crypto gaming boomer: Gala Games.

Recent Success of Gala Games

If we take a look at Gala Games through the crypto prism, the last several weeks became the breakthrough for the project. GALA token surged nearly 300% after being suddenly listed on Binance. Binance is the most popular crypto exchange. Its price rose from $0.02 per unit to an all-time high $0.12 within a matter of weeks.

Gala Games has been accelerating game development, particularly in Town Star, and Spider Tanks, with the most recent updates. TownCoin is their cryptocurrency that they have introduced to the initial project. Spider Tanks was finally released for beta testing. It was well received by the players.

Gala Games: What is it?

Enjin and Gala Games share some similarities. One token was created to connect the ecosystem. Moreover, GALA was built on the blockchain as well as ENJ, but switched to Binance Smart Chain as a BEP-20 asset recently in order to reduce gas fees.

Gala Games, however, is just one step towards creating a multiverse. At the moment, Gala Games functions as both a publisher and a game shop. On the other hand, the developers didn’t express their will to create a multiverse. But, it is possible.

It is described as a platform decentralized that puts players’ interests first. One of the first statements on their official website claims “the blockchain should be invisible.” So, let’s look at what kind of games they can propose to players worldwide.

Announced and Available Games

So far, there are five games listed on the Gala Platform: Town Star, Spider Tanks, Mirandus, Fortified, and Echoes of Empire. Each of these games are completely free. You will however need the appropriate NFTs to enjoy full-fledged gameplay. Only the first version is currently available as open-beta, but beta testing has started for the second. There are many gameplay videos.

Town Star

The first game is a farming simulator on a blockchain with support for NFT items. Additionally, the creator of FarmVille was involved as the creative head. Thus, the game couldn’t be bad.

Town Star allows you to create an entire internal market based upon real cryptocurrency. TownCoin was added to the site recently. It also features the unique feature of randomly generating the gaming map each week. This eliminates the possibility of losing your competitive ability if you take a break from playing.

Officially, it is still in beta. It doesn’t run as smoothly as desired so far. Sometimes, the FPS rate can be low. However, it’s playable. It’s definitely one step ahead of its main competitor in the farming genre, My Neighbour Alice, which will be launched in spring of 2022.

Spider Tanks

This is a very intriguing project from the gaming perspective. This top-down brawler/shooter featuring futuristic tanks and a wide range of modifications sounds very unique, not just for blockchain gaming but also for traditional games.

GAMEDIA is an outside studio that developed this game. GAMEDIA has been producing games since 2007. All tanks, as well as all their parts and accessories, are NFTs. Spider Tanks’ gameplay is a compilation of World of Tanks and League of Legends. Officially, the game will be released in Q4 2021.

Mirandus

Mirandus is a fantasy RPG with an interesting blocky style. The screenshots on the official website show a top-down view which visually evokes Minecraft Dungeons. However, YouTube pre-alpha gameplay shows that this game will be an ideological successor for Skyrim.

It is currently in development. Developers announced that the tokenization of in-game assets would be possible.

Fortified

This game is going to be a browser game in the tower defence genre. It is very vivid in its visual design. The game could be a leader in the Blockchain Gaming Industry, as it lacks any games of this type. Arrow Tower Level 1 is the only NFT we currently have for this game on the market. It has yet to be announced when the game will release.

Echoes of Empire

This is the only game on the platform that is pending node vote. As Gala Games is the decentralized platform, it’s partially owned by the community. It is owned by those who have purchased nodes. The community must approve a project before game development can begin.

Ion Games, an external developer of space strategies has announced that the game will be released. We have so far only the artwork and general description.

The Dilemma of Owning Before Playing

As I mentioned before, gamers are a very picky audience. It is not clear, however, if ordinary gamers will still be the market for blockchain gaming.

It is an inverted process to launch a cryptocurrency game. These projects can open new markets or offer NFTs to enhance existing NFTs. Second, digital item owners have access to beta testing and gameplay before the general public.

The game will be released to a small group of dedicated gamers. These people need to feel confident and excited about the game’s idea. Instead, gamers will watch a lot of YouTube reviews before purchasing a game. The blockchain gaming community is essentially a crypto community, which can be used to invest for the future.

Gamers want to play. Gala Games has not yet provided much in the way of games.

On The Flipside

  • The project claims to have more than 1.3 million active gamers worldwide.
  • The embryonic stage was where all the most popular blockchain games were created. The goal is to grow the game and improve its quality.
  • Blockchain games being rooted in traditional cryptocurrency, it was common to launch a game using initial game offerings (IGOs). This, in effect, means that you are buying unfinished products.
  • The decentralized approach to ICO and IGO is used. Because there are no decision-making parties, the community is responsible for creating the product.

What are the reasons to care?

Blockchain gaming is still very young. The industry’s leaders are still to be identified. Gala Games is a promising company that could be among them. If one of the players shifts from collecting to playing, it is possible to reach a large audience. Thus, it’s just a question of time to see who will be first.
