(Reuters) – Netflix (NASDAQ:) on Tuesday rolled out five mobile gaming titles to its subscribers in select European markets, as part of its efforts to diversify revenue sources amid intensifying competition in the booming video-streaming space.
The company has introduced “Stranger Things: 1984”, “Stranger Things 3: The Game”, “Card Blast”, “Teeter Up” and “Shooting Hoops” titles on Android to Netflix members in Spain and Italy.
The other titles will be available in Poland where “Stranger Things: 1984” is already available.
A company spokesperson said that they are still at the beginning of the process but were excited to offer these games as part the Netflix subscription. “With no ads or in-app purchases, we are very much in the early stages.”
Netflix mentioned plans to expand gaming in its quarterly earnings. Newer streaming players like Disney+, HBO Max, and Disney+ have been increasing their subscribers rapidly, increasing competition in the streaming space.
In its shareholder letter, the company stated that gaming was another content category. This is similar to expanding into original movies, animation, and unscripted television.
