Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the United States House of Representatives, has revealed that the house will vote on the controversial $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill on Thursday, Sept. 30.
[On] On September 27, the House will start deliberating on the Bipartisan infrastructure framework on its Floor. It will then be up for a vote on Thursday, September 30.
Pelosi believes that the legislation will pass, according to Reuters. Her previous comments were that she wouldn’t put the bill up for a vote unless it was certain to pass.
Pelosi noted that the vote would take place on the same day as the Surface Transportation Reauthorization Act of 2030 is due to expire.
On Aug. 10, the Senate passed the original legislation with bipartisan support. This legislation could require strict counterparty reporting by decentralized network validationators and software developers who don’t have all the information required to comply.
Some pro-crypto senators tried to add an amendment to exclude validators, developers, and node operators. However, Alabama Senator Richard Shelby opposed the addition of this amendment to the legislation. This was much to the dismay of the crypto community.
Some legislators oppose the infrastructure bill and believe it should be stopped until the negotiations for the $3.5 trillion climate and social welfare bill are over.
Pelosi stated that some Democrats find the cost of the second bill disturbing and suggested that the bill’s scope could be reduced. She said:
We are now working together with the Senate and the White House on changes to this historic legislation… [$3.5 trillion] was the number that was sent to us by the Senate and by the president. There must be changes to the legislation that are made during negotiations. The sooner we make these changes, the more likely it is that we will reach a consensus on how to move forward.
