Google wants search results to be ‘endless stream of visual ideas’

Google VP of Merchant Shopping Matt Madrigal announced the company will add tools that lets users do more end-to-end shopping Google.
Google will be redesigning its most popular search engine. Users may also find their searches remain on Google’s properties longer.
At its second annual search event, called Search On, Google showed off its latest batch of advancements to search results. Google highlighted its artificial intelligence, which can answer complex queries more precisely.
Executives said the new AI technology called Multitask Unified Model, or MUM, is 1,000 times more powerful than the BERT model powering Google Search. MUM is able to pull data from text, images, and videos in order to tell users what they need for specific hiking on Mt. Fuji.
Google will display more search results for sweatshirts for men if you use the Google Merchant Shopping vice-president Matt Madrigal. According to Madrigal, the website will make suggestions and let users easily compare prices.
Madrigal shared an example about trying to find the “best hat for small heads” (or “that incredible design on the base a snowboard”.
While Google parent Alphabet has expanded well beyond online ads into cloud computing, driverless cars and other projects, search remains the lifeblood of the company. As the company becomes larger, it also spends more on content partners sites.
In the most recent quarter, Google paid more than $1 billion over what Wall Street analysts expected for traffic. These expenses increased more than 50% over the year before. One way to keep costs down is keeping users on Google websites.
Google announced that it would be adding its image recognition technology Google Lens to Chrome’s internet browser. This will allow users to see search results along with a website.
Madrigal stated that soon, you will see a button in Google’s app for iPhone which makes all pages instantly searchable. There’s no need for you to leave your current website.
According to the company, it will include inventory from stores on its website.
Elizabeth Reid, Google Search vice president of search, said that the company would expand its search results.
Pandu Nayak, Vice President for Search, stated that anyone taking a picture of a shirt would be able get recommendations from Google retailers.
Someone may take a picture of a bike to find out how it works.
His explanation included search results that came from videos and blogs as well as websites. His demo showed a YouTube video as the first result.

She said, “Sometimes you don’t even know what you want until it is there.”
