LONDON, (Reuters) – It’s safe to get a COVID-19 vaccination and a flu shot simultaneously. The immune system produced by both vaccines is not affected.

Britain and northern countries of the hemisphere will be facing a hard winter. There is also the chance that flu-like symptoms could increase as COVID-19 restrictions and social isolation measures will be relaxed.

British health workers and the elderly are receiving Booster COVID-19 shots. Prime Minister Boris Johnson also promises to deliver the most comprehensive flu vaccination program ever.

University of Bristol led the study that found side effects reported by flu vaccine users were often mild or moderate. Pfizer (NYSE:) Or AstraZeneca’s (NASDAQ:) COVID-19 shot.

Rajeka Lazarus, chief investigator of the vaccine program said that this is an important step and could result in fewer visits for people who need both vaccines.

“The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation has received the results from this study for its consideration. It will assist policymakers in planning the future development of these vital vaccination programs.”

The shots were administered in the opposite arm, on the same day.

One group got a COVID shot in one visit and had to have a flu jab the next. A placebo was administered in the second visit. Another had a COVID-19 injection and had to be given the next day.

Study results showed that 97% of respondents said they were willing to get two vaccines at once in the future.

Sixty-eight volunteers were recruited at twelve sites in England and Wales. This preprint was made available to the public. Full results are due to appear in Lancet.
