(Reuters) – Finding candidates from diverse racial, ethnic and gender backgrounds will be a “big focus” in the process of seeking replacements for the two regional Federal Reserve bank presidents who recently announced their departures, Fed Chair Jerome Powell said on Thursday.

Powell responded to Joyce Beatty’s question during a House Financial Services Committee appearance. “I am certain that we will do everything in our power to attract and provide fair opportunities to candidates from diverse backgrounds for those jobs.” This will be the main focus of both those processes.
