LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – A lawyer for Jamie Spears on Thursday denounced a Los Angeles judge’s decision to suspend him as conservator of his daughter Britney Spears’ $60 million estate.

LA Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny removed Jamie Spears https://www.reuters.com/legal/litigation/britney-spears-case-back-court-with-dads-role-line-2021-09-29 from the role on Wednesday and set a November court date to consider whether to terminate the 13-year-old legal arrangement. Britney’s attorney suggested that he be replaced temporarily by an accountant.

“Respectfully, the court was wrong to suspend Mr. Spears, put a stranger in his place to manage Britney’s estate, and extend the very conservatorship that Britney begged the court to terminate earlier this summer,” Vivian Thoreen, a lawyer for Jamie Spears, said in a statement.

Thoreen stated that the outcome was disappointing and, frankly, tragic for Britney.

Thoreen stated that the “Stronger” singer had previously said that her father controlled her and she was scared of him. The pop singer said she was on cloud nine right now, after he was removed.

Thoreen said that Jamie Spears helped her to revive her career, and establish a close relationship with her kids under her conservatorship. The conservatorship has managed her financial and personal affairs ever since her 2008 mental breakdown. Information about the singer’s mental condition has not been released.

Thoreen explained that “anyone who’s tried to assist a relative with mental issues can see the enormous amount of work and worry involved.” 

“For Mr. Spears, this also meant biting his tongue and not responding to all the false, speculative, and unsubstantiated attacks on him by certain members of the public, media, or more recently, Britney’s own attorney,” she added.
