TAIPEI, Reuters – China launched a vituperative assault on Taiwan’s foreign ministry. It invoked the words Mao Zedong who denigrated him as a “shrilling fly” for his efforts in promoting Taiwan international.
Fluent in English, Joseph Wu is a Taiwan Foreign Minister and a vocal supporter of Taiwan’s attempts to resist pressure from China. He regularly speaks on panels and think-tanks.
China’s Taiwan Affairs Office blasted Wu for lying about Taiwan as a sovereign state in an extended denunciation late Thursday.
The poem, The River All Red by Mao, was an attack on the Soviet Union, and United States.
According to the Beijing Taiwan Affairs Office, “All comments regarding Taiwan independence are nothing but flies, humming with a burstof shrilling and an fit of sobbing,”
Taiwan’s foreign minister said that it was not worthy to comment on the attack.
Taiwan’s China policy-making Mainland Affairs Council, however, denounced it for “slandering and abuse”.
“This level of verbal violence in international communities is unheard of and highlights Taiwan-related bodies’ overstepping of rules. This shows how far the Taiwan Strait has fallen from civilized society.
China is increasing its military and political pressure on the democratically-ruled island in an effort to force it to recognize Chinese sovereignty.
Taiwan declares it is an independent nation and vows to defend democracy and freedom.
