ZURICH, (Reuters) – Switzerland will offer gift certificates to those who get others to vaccinate against COVID-19. The government announced Friday that this was part of efforts to improve the country’s low vaccination rates.

A government representative will ask each person to give their name and receive a gift token worth fifty Swiss francs ($53.68) for his or her assistance.

It will depend on the location where you can use your voucher, like at restaurants and cinemas.

According to the government, “Everyone can encourage a friend or neighbour, a work colleague, or a family member to receive vaccinations.” The government stated that this cooperation must be acknowledged.

Switzerland’s vaccination rate is one of Europe’s lowest, at 58% for its 8.7million population.

So far, the country has administered 10.4 millions doses of vaccines and received 11.9 million vaccine doses. Anti-vaxxer groups have staged numerous demonstrations in opposition to the vaccination campaign.

While the numbers of coronavirus infections are decreasing in Switzerland, officials said that intensive care units remain tense.

It said that despite the large number of people who are not immune and the contagious Delta virus, there’s still a high risk of an additional wave of infection in the autumn and winter. This could put a strain on hospitals.

150 Million Francs will be spent by the government on this campaign. The government plans to host a week-long national vaccination program with 170 mobile clinics.

Switzerland and neighbouring principality Liechtenstein have reported https://www.covid19.admin.ch/en/overview?time=total more than 840,000 cases of COVID-19, with 10,713 deaths.
