NEW YORK, Reuters – An American disbarred lawyer spent years fighting for justice. Chevron Corp (NYSE) was sentenced to six-months imprisonment over environmental pollution in Ecuadorian forests. The conviction stemmed from an oil company lawsuit.

Loretta Preska, U.S. District Judge sentenced Steven Donziger in May for “willfully” violating court orders. He also failed to surrender his computer or other electronic devices.

She said, “It appears that only the proverbial four-by-four between his eyes will instill any respect for law”

Donziger’s lawyers didn’t immediately reply to my request for comment.

Chevron has not yet responded to my request for comment.

A request for comment was not received by the private attorneys who served as United States prosecutors.
