MADRID, Reuters – Spanish authorities have started talks with China’s Great Wall Motor Co to discuss a potential takeover of the main Spanish Japanese plant located in Barcelona. This was according to a source within the labour union.

A source told Reuters that Nissan, authorities and Silence also chose D-HUB and D-HUB to discuss the fate of two small plants.

Nissan had announced that it will close its three Barcelona factories last year as part of its worldwide restructuring efforts. Initially, they said that the plant would be closed by 2020. But it later changed the deadline by one year to accommodate Spanish authorities who began looking for an industrial alternative.
